Hey there, fellow chicken enthusiasts! Welcome to our farmyard fiesta, where the clucks are loud and the feathers are fabulous. Today, we're taking a laid-back stroll through the wonderful world of chicken breeds, shining a spotlight on our favorite feathered friends: the one and only Isa Brown hens. So grab a seat, sip on some lemonade, and let's dive into the coop!

Now, when it comes to chicken breeds, it's like picking flavors at an ice cream shop – there's something for everyone! But here at Cedar Valley Farms, we're all about those Isa Browns, and let me tell you why they're the rockstars of our pastures:

1. Social Butterflies

These gals aren't just your average cluckers – they're the friendliest bunch you'll ever meet! With their wagging tails... wait, wrong animal! But seriously, Isa Browns are like the cheerleaders of the coop, always ready with a chirp and a friendly peck. Whether you're collecting eggs or sharing secrets, they're there for it all. Any night of the week you can find our son Cruse trying to pick all of them up. WIth over 700 on pasture, nobody's got time for that. LOL

2. Egg-cellent Layers (Pun Intended):

Alright, let's talk eggs. Isa Browns aren't just good layers – they're egg-laying machines! We're talking over 300 eggs per hen each year. It's like waking up to an Easter egg hunt every single day! Whether you're whipping up a fluffy omelet or baking grandma's famous cake, these eggs are pure gold. If you haven't read All About Our Chickens. We are a pasture-based farm selling our eggs to groceries and direct to consumers doors so we need lots of eggs.

3. Foraging Fanatics:

Who needs a grocery store when you've got a flock of Isa Browns? These girls are natural-born foragers, always on the hunt for the next tasty treat. From juicy bugs to crunchy veggies, they know how to make the most of their pasture playground. Plus, all that outdoor time keeps them happy, healthy, and ready to lay those eggs. Although hens diet can't consist solely of forage if given the opportunity it can make up at least 20% of it. I go more in-depth in our article What our hens eat.

So, there you have it – the lowdown on our Isa Brown hen heroes! Whether you're a seasoned farmer or a backyard newbie, adding a few of these lovable ladies to your flock is sure to bring some sunshine to your coop. Thanks for clucking along on this adventure with us – stay tuned for more farmyard fun and feathered antics. Until next time, keep on clucking! 🐔🌟
